How Does the Heart Pump Blood Through Our Body?
The heart is a strong, muscular organ about the size of your fist . It works like a powerful pump that pushes blood all around your body every second .
The heart has four chambers:
Right Atrium
Right Ventricle
Left Atrium
Left Ventricle
Step 1: Blood Comes Back to the Heart
Blood that has used up its oxygen travels back to the heart from the body .
It enters the right atrium .
Step 2: Blood Goes to the Lungs
The blood moves from the right atrium to the right ventricle .
The right ventricle pumps the blood to the lungs .
In the lungs, the blood picks up fresh oxygen .
Step 3: Oxygen-Rich Blood Returns
Now the blood is full of oxygen .
It travels back to the heart and enters the left atrium.
Step 4: Blood Is Pumped to the Whole Body
The blood moves into the left ventricle .
The left ventricle is the strongest chamber .
It pumps oxygen-rich blood through the aorta (the biggest artery) and sends it to the whole body .
The Heartbeat
Each time your heart beats, it squeezes and relaxes:
Squeeze = Pump blood out
Relax = Fill with blood again
Your heart beats about 60–100 times per minute !
It works day and night without stopping .
