One day, Mulla Nasrudin arrived at a lively marketplace where a tightrope walker was performing high above the crowd. The audience watched in amazement as he walked steadily across the rope without losing balance.
After finishing, the performer asked the crowd, “Do you believe I can walk across again while carrying a person on my back?”
Everyone shouted, “Yes, we believe you can!”
The performer then looked at Nasrudin and asked, “Do you believe it too?”
Nasrudin calmly replied, “Yes, I believe you can do it.”
The performer smiled and said, “Then come, climb on my back!”
Nasrudin quickly stepped back and said, “I believe in your skill, but I prefer not to test it with my own life!”
The crowd laughed, understanding his clever response.
Moral: Believing in something is easy, but trusting it with your own safety is a different matter.
